The Center for Disease Control (CDC) states that chlorine and chloramine byproducts in water can act as human carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). Although the Startek reverse osmosis unit uses a combination of carbon filters to remove most contaminants, it also sends the water through an extremely tight membrane that filters out particles that carbon filtration alone cannot do.
For example, if there is lead in your water, the unit's ultra-thin film membrane will remove 95% to 98%. If your water has a high amount of sodium, the same ultra-thin film membrane will remove 91% to 96%. Sodium is not removed by normal filtration. The Startek reverse osmosis membrane, along with its accompanying carbon filtration, is the best technology available for removing the sodium and chloramine that many city water systems now use instead of chlorine.
